Newly Published Plays by William Inge Now on Sale

Five plays by William Inge that had previously never been published are now available, only through the Inge Center.

Purchase your copy now of "A Complex Evening: Six Short Plays by William Inge." This is a volume of scripts of short plays by William Inge as presented at the 28th Annual William Inge Theatre Festival April 22 of 2009.

Five of the scripts in this volume have been in the William Inge Collection at Independence Community College for more than four decades. Prior to publishing this volume, they were only available to read at the Inge Collection itself.

The volume includes six plays. Five had never been published. The plays demonstrate a wide breadth of styles not commonly associated with Inge's writing.

"A Silent Call" shows Inge's dark and almost mystical side. "Bad Breath" is a hilarious absurdist piece. "Moved In" and "Morning on the Beach" show an optimistic side of Inge, which some people find surprising. Conversely, "The Love Death" is an extended monologue that is virtually autobiographical and takes a very different tone. A sixth play in this volume is "A Murder." That play has been previously published, but was included in this volume because it too shows a style not commonly associated with Inge's work.

Though Inge is known as a psychologically rich observer of small town life, unexpectedly, through these plays, mostly written in the 1960s, Inge also focuses his lens on popular culture and racial tensions.

"A Complex Evening" is essential reading for any student of American drama and any fan of William Inge's plays.

Copies of "A Complex Evening" are $15 each, plus $3.95 for shipping and handling within the United States. The Inge Center accepts checks and credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover.)
